A RUSSIAN SILVER TEA GLASS HOLDER, GILT LINED, BY GRACHEV BROTHERS, ST PETERSBURG, 1896-1908 A superb, very elegant piece by one of Imperial Russia's finest firms, a holder of the Imperial Warrant. The form is very uncommon, and reflects the preference of the St Petersburg nobility for more Western European styles of silverware, particularly those of France and England. It is very boldly embossed and chased with floral and foliate motifs, and trellis work, with a large vacant reserve to the front, and gilded within. The base is punched with the first kokoshnik mark, signifying an assay date of 1896-1908, the silver standard of 84 zolotniks, and the initials of the assaymaster A. Richter, St Petersburg, plus the mark of the maker, the Grachev Brothers, with the double-headed eagle, the Imperial Warrant mark, above the name . This is guaranteed to be a genuine piece of Imperial Russian silver ; it is of very heavy gauge, and in excellent condition with no dents, cracks or splits. Height 7cm / diameter 8cm at the rim / weight 254g (9oz) Please feel free to email me with any questions.
