Rustic Victorian photographers wooden garden table Size : Length 120 cm x width 60 cm x 72 cm high This table was acquired from a local photographer after he portrayed my great-grandparents between 1880 and 1890. At one time we had two seats similar to the one shown in the black and white image, plus three tables, each very similar to the one in the sepia photograph. We used them as garden furniture. I managed to get the last surviving table back when it was about to be put on a bonfire after the same house was emptied about 10 years ago. Our family photographs had all been made, either by Thorn or Broad of Bude, Hayman of Launceston, or Vickery Brothers of Barnstaple, so the table probably originated in one of these areas. It has also been suggested that the table could have been the work of George Wright, who, apparently was well known for this type of rustic furniture. Sadly my searches on the internet have turned up no further clue. These tables were popular with Victorian photographers, who regularly used them as props when making portraits. It is quite rare to find examples of this type of furniture today, so I feel sure someone will be interested in restoring it. It does need a fair bit of work.
