Ruth Kerkovius (Born 1921) The Valley , 1980 Original Pencil SignedColor Lithograph, # 10/50 This blissful original color lithograph on wove paper with deckled edges and full margins was executed by the Latvia born American artist Ruth Kerkovius, is signed and dated 1980 in pencil by the artist on the lower right, numbered 10/50 and titled in pencil on the lower left. The image measures 14 ½ X 23 ½ inches, with the paper measuring 22 ½ X 30 inches. It is an excellent impression with vivid color, in excellent condition, aside from hinge tape at the top corners of the paper on the verso, and soft handling creases in the margins. It is not laid down, nor has any foxing, or tears. Estimate $250-450. NO RESERVE. Ruth Kerkovius was born in Latvia in 1921, and received her early training in Munich, Germany, working in theatre Costume History and Design, and in painting before she came to America. Once in New York she studied at the Art Students League, the School of Visual Arts, the Pratt Graphic Art Center under Antonio Frasconi, and then continued at Pratt on a fellowship to work under Michael Ponce de Leon. She has participated in the major juried print shows since 1962 including the Society of American Graphic Artists, the Silverman Guild of Artists, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the Library of Congress.
