ORIGINAL U.S. CAVALRY SADDLE BAGS COMPLETE WITH CANVAS LINERS.

STAMPED: LONG 1917 F.A.W.

THE VINTAGE LEATHER FLAPS HAVE A U.S. STAMP ON EACH BAG, CLOSING STRAPS AND BUCKLES ARE PRESENT, SOME VERDIGRIS ON THE BRASS FITTINGS FROM AGE, AND THE AGED RUSSETT COLORED LEATHER IS SUPPLE & SOFT. A PIECE OF LEATHER HAS BEEN SEWN TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE STRAP BETWEEN THE TWO BAGS. THIS IS A REPAIR PRIOR TO MY ACQUISITION SO THE SET WOULD REMAIN FUNCTIONAL. THE BAGS HAVE THE CANVAS LINERS WHICH ARE OFTEN MISSING. THE LINERS HAVE SOME SOILING AND REMAIN FUNCTIONAL.

WW I AND WW II USE WITH OUR MOUNTED TROOPS.

CIRCA 1917, A PERIOD IN HISTORY WHEN GEORGE S. PATTON (AN AIDE) AND GEN. JOHN J. PERSHING WERE INVOLVED IN AN UNSUCCESSFUL EXPEDITION OR ATTEMPT TO CAPTURE PANCHO VILLA. SO A NICE CONVERSATION PIECE OR PERHAPS AN ADDITION TO ANY U.S. McCLELLAN SADDLE. DISPLAY IN THE TACK OR REC ROOM.
