Up for auction is the U.S. Mint's 1999 Silver Proof Set. This is by far the most prized and valuable proof set released by our nation's mint in decades and is exceeded in appreciation only by select error sets and circa 1940s sets. Now worth more than 10 times its original value , the 1999 set has distinguished itself as an investment-grade coin set but still affordable for those newer numismatists. In addition to an impressive appreciation rate, 7 of the 9 coins are 90% silver , a precious metal that has rocketed upwards in value over the past year. Silver is a safe, long term investment, and is doubly so when paired with proof-grade coinage. Included in the 1999 set are the penny, nickel, silver quarter, silver Kennedy half-dollar, and the first five state quarters, all in silver . The coin for the first state admitted into the Union, Delaware, has proven an excellent investment even in circulated grades. Things to keep in mind: I select my coins carefully from experienced numismatists in the eBay community and physical address dealers. Coins that are spotting or hazing and cracked cases are not placed on the auction block. Beware of what appear to be cheap buys that leave you without value-enhancing original packaging and a certificate of authenticity. Also watch out for offers that include only the quarters, or only the common annual coins: partial sets are worth significantly less and risk poor appreciation. Stock photos. Thanks again for considering my auction, and feel free to contact me with any questions.
