U.S. PLATE BLOCK COLLECTION - OVER 1,000 STAMPS

This plate block collection was put together by my husband's father, who passed away over 25 years ago. He is not a stamp collector nor is anyone else in the family, so he is finally seling his dad's collections. This plate block collection probably was started at least 50 or so years ago. The first photo shows the 8 plate block books that the stamps are in, and the next two photos show a few samples of the blocks, trying to show a bit of the variety. The plate blocks are in 8 separate books, and the books have glassine pockets or sleeves to hold the plate blocks. We roughly counted about 230 plate blocks and over 1,000 stamps total. Denominations included are (in cents): 1/2, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 13, 15, 18, 20, and 24, plus several undenominated blocks ("B" stamp, Christmas 1981). It looks like none of the blocks have ever been hinged, just stored flat in the glassine pockets. Most of them are in what we would describe as mint or near-mint condition (though we are not collectors, so keep in mind that is not an official description - just our personal observation), nice and flat with no marks on either side and what appears to be perfect or near-perfect glue on the backs. Some have some small "spots" on the glue surface due to very slight sticking against other blocks, since many were stored back-to-back in the glassine pockets, though we found that most did not stick at all to others or affect the glue in any way. In a small number the glue is either not in great condition or not there at all. Any that were significantly stuck together we had already removed, soaked apart, and used for ordinary postage; they were not returned to this collection if we had to do anything to them. Most of them are the standard 4-stamp blocks with numbered borders, but there are also some 2, 3, 6, 8, 10, and 20-stamp blocks, including some interesting multiple-stamp sets like U.S. flags, postal workers, and space flight - see photos for a few examples. The larger blocks had been folded to fit into the glassine pockets. Some (not too many) of the blocks are cancelled - see photos for a few examples. There are a few duplicate blocks in the collection, but not too many. A very small number do not have the numbered borders, just stamps only. There are also a couple of airmail stamp blocks. I hope we have described these adequately, but please let us know if you have any questions. It is also available for local pickup in North Ridgeville, Ohio with no charge. PayPal or credit card through PayPal is required for payment, and payment must be received within 6 days of the end of the auction . We will ship within one or two business days after receiving payment. For local pickup, either pre-pay with PayPal (in which case pickup can be any time) or pick up and pay cash within the 6 days.
