Set of 4 Chairs from the historic... S.S. Grand View Pennsylvania's lost ship hotel This set of sets came from the historic S.S. Grand View Hotel, the mountian top hotel/resturant on the "Lincoln Highway" (Rt. 30) America's first trans-continental highway. Vistors could view 3 states and 7 counties from the deck of the S.S. Grand View which was near Bedford, Pennsylvania. The "ship" even had a captian and crew. The "ship hotel" as it was known, greated travelers from the early 1920's through the 1970's. It fell into disrepair and a finally only a couple years ago was destroyed in a monumental fire. It was a tragic loss to all 2-lane highway historians and tourists. We acquired these chairs from a Pennsylvania antique dealer not that long prior to the ship's fire. We don't know how many others made it out. If you look at the photos you will see each of the oak chairs which we presume were made in the 1920's or 1930's have an insert of plywood in the shape of a ship's anchor painted green. You can see these chairs and other similar painted ones in most of the tourist postcards the hotel produced over the years. The chairs are in basically good condition, they are oak with dark green leather upholstry. The wood is dry but very solid. A couple of the chairs could stand tightened up with some fresh glue. All we did for the photos was clean and polish the chairs for clarity in the photos. The upholstry could be used as is but we would think a buyer may want to reupholster them in the correct leather materials. One chair has had a wire tightener added underneath and another has one metal rod drilled and inserted for strength. We would think they got a lot of use in this popular roadside attraction. Buyer pays all shipping. We suggest you pickup the chairs at our Canton, Ohio home. Shipping can be arranged via a commercial furniture mover at the buyer's expense. Payment in full must come within 10 working days. PayPal is preferred payment. Cash, check, money order also accepted. This is a rare opportunity to purchased a set of 4 very rare and significant highway icons. Don't miss out. Lo minimum and very low reserve, have fun bidding, we want the right person to get these who will enjoy them. For more information about the Lincoln Highway, go to the association web site at This years Lincoln Highway Association conference will be held in Ft. Morgan, Colorado in June. More details are on the web site. If you have not driven the Lincoln Highway think of it as Rt. 66 only older, more historic and a lot longer. That means more to see and do, just no TV show.
