Each banknote features Saddam's portrait, an Arabic front, and an English back. Following the first Gulf War, Iraq's economy was crippled by severe sanctions. The collapsing value of the dinar, from over $3 per dinar before the war, forced the Iraqi government to print ever higher denominated banknotes, such as this 10,000 dinar note. Although Iraqi banknotes from this era were of low quality due to this sanctions, the 10,000 dinar notes features some advanced security features.
