Here's one of those hard-to-find vintage " Clamshell " police holsters made by the Safety Speed Company in Los Angeles during the 1950's, 60's and early 1970's. They were used in the old "Highway Patrol" TV series starring Broderick Crawford in the 1950's and also on the hit series "Adam 12". These were service holsters for both the LAPD and California Highway Patrol. My fourth picture is a still from the 1950's with a trooper carrying a "clamshell" holster in the Highway Patrol series. For you Star Trek fans, that is Leonard Nimoy in the middle next to Brod Crawford. This is one of the early models made to fit on a belt no wider than 1 1/2". It is built to carry an Smith & Wesson Model 19 K-Frame. I placed a Model 19-6" in it yesterday and the release button was perfectly centered between the front of the trigger and the guard. The release mechanism works smoothly and springs opens almost 180 degrees. It opens almost as fast as the eye can see and closes with a good snap. The model # for this holster is hard to get a picture of, but it is C38-41. I did no clean-up or polishing on the leather. It has been in climate controlled storage for the last ten years. There is a tiny 1/4" tear in the leather just above the release button which can be repaired by a good leather shop. The steel frame is tight and solid and so is the stitching. read more
