Antique Primitive Salesmans sample of mobile flat Chain and Sprocket driven incline bucket elevator conveyor system or depending on application called a grain leg that was used to haul or move flowable bulk materials. This salesmans sample is an exact pressed steel miniature of full size bucket conveyor system. The sample is of a gravity fed grain leg or Iam sure also attachments available for the customer to allow a steam engine to operate the conveyor system. it has the sprockets buckets flat chains on tracks material chute frame chassis and chain tensioners that were used on full size system. It weighs around 20-25lbs it stands 17 1/2" tall from bottom of conveyor to end of material chute measures 20" and wheelbase is 7" wide. The salesman's sample is fully functional for demonstration it has a small steel with oak handle that folds out it is attached to sprocket and chain that turns the whole system which moves buckets and shows how buckets move up incline via chain that is on guides and how buckets or also they were called bins dumped material into feed shoot. t are also parts inside the housing of sample that are t just to show customer how the system worked and the extra parts that would help improve conveyor performance. You can see in a few of the pictures on the side of the sample t is a handle that is fastened to the piece for carrying it is heavy for what it is so a handle was fastened to the side for the salesman. On the whole sample t are no screws nuts bolts it is all rivets, pressed steel and button rivets. The salesman did paint it originally it was just plain steel with no paint and i can tell this because w the paint is chipped it is bare steel the paint job is not the greatest but i leave everything original thats the way i like it but if you wanted it would be easy to strip paint off, Also all the wheels are steel except for one which something had happened to that wheel and the company had another made out of solid wood you really cant tell the difference with the paint but wanted to mention. On the whole sample t are no numbers markings or hints of the manufacturer of the full size bucket elevator system, Iam sure that at one point t w stickers or painted decals identifying manufacturer, I have my speculations of what company the sample was produced for but i cannot be sure. This Piece dates back to atleast 1860 and the reason I say this is around that period of the beginning of the industrial revolution the bucket elevator enabled technology to produce the construction of grain elevators and the first grain elevators date back to around the mid 1860's and later. The bucket elevator conveyor system was used for many different application including agricultural for grain, seeds and feed, also used in shipyards to unload barges boats ships, sold to breweries to move barrels and grain construction cement and coal mining industry and many other industries that were part of the industrial revolution and needed a way to move bulk and load bulk material. Overall the Salesmans sample is in very good condition it has no rust on it no dent everything works good for demonstration like i said it doesnt have the best paint job but i like it the way it is it has been in my large collection of salesman samples for a long time and being very early original paint it just adds to the uniqueness and rarity of the piece. And I also wanted to mention that i search the world over for salesmans samples to add to my collection and i have never ran into or seen another incline bucket conveyor elevator system before, I do have similar samples but not the incline gravity feed system. I purchased from an agricultural and antique construction auction about 27 years ago and paid well over my starting bid so unfortunately i do have to put a reserve on the auction. I know that t are other Sample collectors out t like myself that could appreciate this piece as i have for many years. And of course with every salesmans sample t will be people questioning if ...
