A very nice old primitive hand turned jug with hand decorated #4 and the rib cage design in cobalt blue. It was probably made in the late 1800's by Red Wing. It has an orange peel texture, and the bee hive shape, with brown turkey eye or kiln droppings, to add to the value and rarity. The nice single, sturdy handle is applied. The 4 gallon size jug is an odd size and scarcer and more sought after than the 3 or 5 gallon jugs. It measures about 15-1/2 inches tall x 10-1/2 bottom diameter and circumference at its widest point of about 35 inches. It is very heavy. The jug is in nice condition, considering its age, weight, and that it is pottery. T is one very tight hairline down the side as is shown in my pic, but I don't think is goes all the way through as the jug still has a nice ring to it. T are glaze bubbles pop outs, which is very common in this type of pottery, and also shown in my pics. T also is what appears to be a heat shrink mark on the inside of the neck by a turkey eye, and on the outside of the neck under the handle. T are a couple of tiny flea bites on the inside of the neck, which appear to have red paint on them, maybe off a cork from years ago; t is also a little red paint on part of the bottom outside rim, w it may have picked up the red paint from the shelf it sat on. T are a couple of very tiny flea bites on the outside rim of the neck, hard to see, wouldn't show up in my pics, and probably at the factory in the making of it, and not worth mentioning. This jug is very old; it does show signs of age, use and wear. I had trouble getting pics to show the true color of the jug, the flash bleached out the color, and with out, it gave an orange cast to the pics. This is a great antique primitive jug and what a great chance to become the next happy owner. The very well wrapped, double boxed shipping weight is 25 pounds, plus t is a $5.00 wrapping fee, which includes Delivery Confirmation; due to the large amount of bubble wrap and peanuts used.
