SALT-GLAZED, MINIATURE STONEWARE Butter churns, C 90s. These three pieces are handmade by Rowe Pottery works of Cambridge, Wis . Two pieces are 2 3/4" high by 1 3/4" round, one piece is 1 ½ " high by 3/4" round. The three pieces weigh 4.7 oz. Each piece is impressed "Handmade, Rowe Pottery works, Cambridge, Wis 1990, 1993 & 1994". Both butter churns have tall slender baluster-shaped body w/molded rims, eared handles & inset covers with wood dasher/pole. Both pieces are hand decorated in cobalt blue slip-quilled delicate floral and birds on the center front. The smaller miniature unit has a handle, and an inset cover. It is impressed, incised with a blue-tinted "butter" mark. The Rowe Pottery company fabricated these miniatures similar the stoneware companies of 1800s by using cobalt blue hand applied graphics to each piece because it could withstand the high firing temperatures of a stoneware kiln. They then threw in salt during the firing which would vaporized at high temperatures and create a shiny glaze for these old looking potteries. Each collectible piece made is one of a kind. We purchased these miniatures from Rowe Pottery works in the late 80s and early 90s. The three pieces are in excellent condition. No cracks or evidence of restorations work is noted. Present values are unknown but stoneware miniatures from 1890 sell for $50.00 - $300.00 ea as noted in "Antique Trader's Stoneware price guide." I prefer payment by Pay Pal. Accept a money order, personal check (should be registered with Pay Pal)or a merchant Credit Card (e-mail/phone me first). After payment is received, will ship within two days to a Pay Pal confirmed address. By default, will use US Postal Service Priority mail to US or First Class International post out of US. I will help with S&H by giving you a credit of up to $4.00 from your invoice. If you want faster S & H or insurance, edit your invoice as necessary.
