Samuel Bennitt's Horn Dated 1775

11" length, has raised ring with engrailed edge, entire horn is carved leaving a raised circle with scalloped edge, Engraved Samuel Bennitt's and dated 1775. With wood plug and carrying ring. There is only one Samuel Bennitt spelled with an "I" listed on , who could be the possible owner of this horn. Samuel Bennitt was from New Milford, Connecticut and originally enlisted in Captain Issac Bostwick's (7th) Company of Colonel Charles Webb's (7th) Regiment, Connecticut Militia serving from July 10, 1775 to December 21, 1775 as corporal. Presumably, Bennitt later re-enlisted in Captain Abel's Company of Connecticut State Troops on June 21, 1776 and was discharged on November 16, 1776, one of three "Bennitt brothers" in Captain Abel's Company. Condition: Horn has a nice deep dark untouched brown patina.
