Title: Self Help - with illustrations of character, conduct and perseverance Author: Samuel Smiles Publisher: John Murray, London Edition: New Edition (the first edition was published in 1859) Date Printed: 1866 Description: Original red cloth hardback with gilt titles to spine. 415 pages plus 6 page publisher's catalogue. Original green endpapers. Bound by Edmonds and Remnants, London. Bumping and wear to extremities, fading to boards (see pictures). Hinges starting to weaken but binding square and essentially sound. Nicely inscribed in the author's own hand to his son-in-law John P Hartree, and dated 27 May 1866. A nice association copy.
