They were usually very simple in design, often made of only one plate and the attached padding and hachi maki tie. This is the only one I've ever seen with decoration, and the only one with size adjustment hinges at the temples. The kamon (crest) is called "hishi" meaning diamond. The name Mitsubishi means three diamonds, and was drawn from a long heritage. The hishi was adopted from China and was a textile motif as early as the Heian Era. Just surface rust, which in no way affects the strength and integrity of the thick and heavy iron. If you wish, you can kill it with clove oil (usually used on swords.) Chain is strong and intact. Only a very few links missing. Nice perimeter brocade and thick, practical padding at forehead. Hachi maki ties all original and in very good shape! An excellent addition to your collection,
