This is a very nice lot of two large vintage or antique sterling souvenir spoons from San Diego, California. San Diego has long been a popular vacation spot and cruise ship stop, not to mention US Navy base, with good reason. It has near perfect weather year-around and beautiful scenery, with a huge bay. In the late 1880's, the world-famous Hotel Del Coronado opened its doors. It is a huge Victorian structure with pointed red roofs that has been in many movies. Left to right, in the first photo: 1. The first one is really nice with a figural handle with a detailed scene of the California State Bear and a gold pan and fruit. It is engraved "1910" on the back of the bowl. The bowl has an amazing scene of a very early "Bay of San Diego from Point Loma". The only building visible is a very tiny Hotel Del Coronado, and t are some old-time boats in the Bay. If you have seen San Diego recently, the same area is covered with structures. The back of the handle is marked "Sterling" with no other hallmark. It is about 5-1/2" long. It is in very good condition, with a little light scratching. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2. The next spoon is also a beautiful antique spoon known as a "Big Letter" spoon. If you've never seen one, they were made for several different locations, mostly in the west, and are very nice, well-molded and heavy. They have the place spelled out down it, with relevant things from the state scattered throughout it. Like, this one has the state seal, the state flower (poppy), and with a magnifying glass, I can see the US Grant Hotel inside the "D"! It also has a palm tree and some fruit. ' The backs are ornate, too. This one has "Ramona's Marriage Place", the "San Diego Mission" and "Point Loma". It is about 5-5/8" long and in very good condition with a little light scratching, not much. It is marked "Sterling" on the back with no other hallmark, but I suspect they were made by Mayer. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ They are not tarnished and have a nice patina. No monograms or other engraving except what is noted. RETURN POLICY: If, for any reason, you are unhappy with an item you have won from me, I have a no-questions-asked full refund policy.
