What a wonderful rememberance and a classic example, of a "family" gatd with a beloved pet, during such a difficult and trying time, in the history of the City by the Bay! Being offered for your consideration, is an antique original , glass negative photo. A touching yet historical picture of what took place following the tragic San Francisco 1906 Earthquake. This original glass negative photo features a medium sized, wavey coated dog, sitting on a sidewalk, looking at his master attentively. The dog's head appears to be cocked to the left. He's wearing a collar and sitting calmly. I'm assuming he was well taken care of and not a displaced stray. This is an original glass negative photo, taken in the front of a store that offered stationery, notions, dry goods and ladies and gents furnishings ( as stated on the store's canvas awning.) An advertising sign featuring a single ladies glove pointing downwards may be seen above the awning to the right of the awning. A woman is standing with arms folded directly in front of the store window. She appears to be taking in the scene unfolding before her. The healthy looking man wearing a hat, shirt, vest and pants as well as a very large watch and chain, may have been the store proprietor. He's kneeling on one knee and chopping wood with a small axe. Directly in back of the man is a homemade shelter. Behind the shelter is a flower cart. The woman to his left is sitting in front of a homemade brick stove and grill. A metal coffee pot, gooseneck kettle and cooking kettle may be found on the stove top. A bottle of liquor sits on the sidewalk directly in front of the stove. To the womans' left is another woman who appears to be well dressed. Everyone is looking towards the dog. The two wooden easels, situated in front of the store's massive glass windows, are completely filled with writing. I'm assuming each offers a menu of some kind. Please note: In order to offer a clear photo of the original glass negative for this auction, it was placed on the top of an operating light box. As a result, the shade of the intensity of the original glass negative may be slightly different from what is being presented to you at this time. The condition of this 4" x 5" item is very good. T is the tiniest amount of loss to the negative finish around one edge. I believe what I am looking at is a ever so slight loss of film coating, which occured during the original finishing process. Please note: This is an original antique glass negative that is 102 years old. Tfore, it is being sold "as is".
