This is an amazing find - large hand-coiled, hand-etched, out-door fired candlesticks signed Tomasita Montoya . Tomasita was born in 1899 and died in1978. This master potter's work can be found in numerous collections and galleries such as the Heard Museum, the University of Kansas Museum, among many others. She is cited in numerous publications such as the Southwestern Pottery Anasazi to Zuni by Hayes and Blom, among many others. Tomasita is one of the original seven potters from the 1930s who was part of the San Juan Revival . The candlesticks are awesome - deeply incised; the design work is exemplary . The candlesticks are in very good condition, no cracks, fractures, chips, or repairs; has minimal wear; candle wax in areas from burning candles. I did not try to remove the wax from these candlesticks. The candlesticks are approximately 5.5 inches high and 5 inches wide. The candle opening is 1 inch wide; heavy, quite substantial. These are some of the largest candlesticks that I have seen crafted by Tomasita. The micaceous clay adds much sparkle and interest to the pieces. They display well and make a stunning impression. These candlesticks are very collectible and a great investment. As always, if you receive an item which you believe is not as described, please notify me and I will be pleased to refund the full purchase price upon return of the item. I value my customers! Shipping/handling $10.00. Insurance is extra and required.
