SANDING BLOCK , LOTHROP PATENT, NEAT AND SCARCE You asked for it and I listened. Due to numerous requests I am going to list my extensive collection of U.S. patented sanding blocks. , finally, after a long wait is what you have been waiting for. Seriously, this is one of my favorite mini-collections. It is astounding that U.S. ingenuity came up with 7 patentable methods to hold sandpaper to a block of wood or metal. Some of the methods are quite ingenious. As I mentioned, I have 7 different blocks and each has a patented feature to hold the paper secure. I like this collectiona lot and believe that you will also. You can imagine how long it took me to find all of these and you can have them all in one week. Some of these I purchased quite inexpensively but a couple I paid more than you could ever believe, certainly more than I can recoup, but then I had the fun of owning, showing and fooling around with these for many years. Now it's your turn. A once in a lifetime chance .This sanding block has "C.M. LOTHROP NORWOOD. MASS. PAT'D MAY 11-80 CANADA APR. 24-80" engraved on the bottom of one of the brass holding strips. This was patent #227438 issued in 1880 to Charles Lothrop. Wood block is about 3" by 5". I believe the block is made of Mahogany and the circular knob on top is Beech or Maple but I am not real good at wood identification. The patent is for the method of attaching the sandpaper to the block. As the top circular knob is rotated it retracts or extends the brass holding strips over the end of the block to snugly hold the paper tight. A pretty ingenious operating mechanism.Block has seen considerable usage. The pad on the bottom is about all worn off and the top of the block is scratched and has various owners initials stamped on it. . The mechanism still works fine but I suppose you will not be actually using this. My E-Bay philosophy is simple, you are the customer and you decide how you want to handle the deal. I will go along with most anything as long as it is not too outrageous and you keep me informed. If it will be a few days before you get payment to me, no problem, just let me know so I will not worry about it being lost. I do not have any hard and fast time lines on what happens when. Normally I will get the package to the PO the day after I receive payment. If for some reason that will be delayed, I will let you know.As usual, you pay the shipping, insurance extra if desired. I personally recommend insurance if the item cost more than $100, but you decide. On most items I sell, I try to estimate the postage cost by USPS Priority Mail (my shipping method) and include that up front so you know exactly what the cost of the item will be. I'm usually within a couple of dollars of the correct cost depending on your zip code. Unless it is too heavy or too large I ship everything, everyw by USPS priority mail. I always declare the value on international orders at the exact invoice price. Never any crazy handling fees or ridiculous reserves.PayPal, money orders or checks accepted. Please allow a few days for checks if it is an expensive item. On most items I ship right away. So far all (well, most) of my dealings have been with nice, honest people. (As I would expect) .I always leave feedback up front, right after you have paid. Some vendors never leave feedback first, they wait till you have left it, that way if you leave bad feedback they can retaliate. I have talked with E-bay about this problem but they always duck the issue. Anyway, I always leave feedback first because I know t will be no problem with my items (or on the rare occasion t is, I will immediately resolve the problem). My satisfaction policy is also very simple, you are the customer and you decide if you want the item. Satisfaction guaranteed, no exception. Purchase may be returned for any reason or no reason within a week in original condition for a full refund. If it is something I did or failed to do I will also refund the postage. If you just changed you...
