Edouard Marcel Sandoz produced a line of figural animal tableware for the Theodore Haviland Co. in the 1910-1920s era. Examples are eagerly sought by both Haviland and Art Deco collectors. This piece appears to be a double salt and is illustrated in a Catalog of the Sandoz line which is reprinted in Mary Frank Gaston's "Haviland Collectables & Objects of Art" (page 24). It measures 3" long, 3 5/8" wide, and stands 2 7/8" high to the top of the fish's dorsal fin. The fish is perched (no pun intended) between the salt dishes and is white with black accents. This piece is in excellent condition (no chips, cracks, crazing, staining, or repairs) and is fully marked.
