An original LNER series Carriage Print issued in the late 1940s/ early 1950s for display in railway carriages. The print survived from the railway stores in the late 1960s and is NOT a reproduction. Location is Sandsend, near Whitby, Yorkshire. One of the few prints to appear originally on a glossy paper - and one of the many scenic railway vistas of this era which, alas, no longer remains. Sandsend station boasted several holiday camping coaches and was located on a winding coastal line between Middlesborough and Whitby and saw a regular train service. The track ran across the trestle viaduct here, which was constructed from tubular metal columns. It was very similar to the one at Staithes, which carried its own wind gauge for safety reasons. Jack is looking from the tidal line towards the station, as an A6 or A8 locomotive is about to cross the frail-looking structure. The sea wall has now been rebuilt, the road realigned and the viaduct and line have long since disappeared. Sandsend (closed) was a former NER station. The painting is by the renowned poster artist Jack Merriott RI ROI PS. These prints are very collectable and are far easier to display than a railway poster (and less expensive, too!). Overall Size 20" x 10" (508 x 254mm), Image Size 16" x 6". Original style reproduction frames for these carriage prints can also be read more
