Sandwich Glass Company clear flint glass whale oil lamp with a cut glass font, a free blown hollow ball center, a pressed glass stepped pillar base and retaining it's original pewter whale oil burner . 1830-1835. Guaranteed old and original; this is not a fake or reproduction. 10" tall to burner top, 3 1/4" square base. Actual weight 2 ¼ lbs . Glass pontil on the inner base. We found this in a Yarmouth , Maine estate two weeks ago. This attractive early lamp with it's three treatments; cut, free blown and pressed, caught our eye right off. The original pewter burner is present but we cannot unscrew it and will not apply any force. It is the original burner and has been on this lamp and in this estate forever. We all like these early whale oil lamps but this one is particularly fine and attractive. It has an understated elegance, a superior quality of manufacture and particularly clean lines. In this lamp, a superior balance of design unifying function, spacing and classical lines presents the eye with a standard that may be used to judge other objects while this one will always be the exemplar. This is a fine early lamp in great condition. Very good as found condition. T is a little roughness under the corner toes edges. Otherwise the lamp is in perfect original condition, as found.
