This is a magnificent set of Sandwich Glass Co. candlesticks c. somew between the mid 1800's-1888: 9 1/2" Tall All Turquoise Blue Fluted Columnar base with Petal socket These candlesticks are in superb shape considering their age. T are no defects outside of the production techniques of the day for either except one has a flake type chip on the underside of the base typical of other well preserved candlesticks of this vintage and maker. Stunning turquoise blue is magnetic, keeping lookers mesmerized by its rich unbelievable color. Clear glass allows light refraction to increase the stunning but more rare color. One candlestick in the more common solid dark blue with little or no translucence and a potstone, flake above the wafer, but a sanded surface sold for $300 in November 2006. Based upon previous sales, these candlesticks have a value above $600 to $800 or $900 for the pair. Listed at the minimum value with no reserve. Please feel free to ask questions before bidding. NEW NOTE: For watchers and members who have kindly awaited more info. and have been free in sharing tips to distinguish this as either Sandwich Glass or not, thank you. I have spent an entire day studying material and articles to indicate what these are. I have decided to pass along this information and outcome of copious notes about the characteristics of these candlesticks. I have noticed contradictory details to distiguish these one way or the other. With each point I have put either a yes or no after the fact. Based upon the articles I read, each fact would either indicate that these were Sandwich (yes) or not (no). 1. T are numerous straw marks, bubbles and weird vains running and t randomly on both the sticks. (Yes) 2. These candlesticks are "brittle" (not literally, but I have no other way to describe this phenomenon characteristic of other Sandwich Glass and flint glass of the era), I mentioned one flake, which is in the photo of the inside of the stick. I found two more very tiny flakes while inspecting these sticks. (Yes) 3. My initial suspicions came about when looking at the inside of the base and what the steps looked like. If the other sticks on ebay and elsew really are Sandwich, then so is this. I found several different "looks" on the inside of the base among listings for Sandwich. (Yes, No, and maybe: I believe the other current listing is actually westmoreland as I have a west--dolphin with the same inside base.) 4. I think these are relatively heavy. But I have no baseline as a comparison. So if you are an officionato and know what these candlesticks should weigh if Sandwich, one stick weighs slightly more that 1 1/2 lbs.
