This is a handmade miniature pot from the Santa Clara Pueblo in New Mexico by award winning artist Anita Suazo. It is approximately 2 1/4 inches high. Bold geometric designs encircle this beautiful black pot and the polish on the piece is stunning. This piece is signed on the bottom by the artist (Anita Suazo Santa Clara). It was purchased in New Mexico in the 1980s. T are no chips or cracks, rub spots, or signs of wear. Pottery from the Santa Clara Pueblo is among the most well known in the world. It is hand made using the coil method, carved, stone polished and then fired outdoors. Anita Suazo Anita says that she started potting when she was a small girl, learning from her mother, Belen Tapia, a noted Santa Clara potter. Like her mother, Anita has been working with her daughter, Lahoma; so now Lahoma is becoming very accomplished. Anita is a regular winner at the major Native American arts shows. William Merrill, assistant curator for the Smithsonian, declared her "a contemporary master potter."
