Santa Clara Vase Artist: Forrest Naranjo Dimensions: 5 1/2" Tall x 3 1/4" Wide This seedpot was hand coiled, polished, and etched by Forrest Naranjo, a Santa Clara artist in New Mexico. Forrest is the brother of Dusty Naranjo, who is also a well known Santa Clara artist. Forrest was raised away from the pueblo, but still acquired the art of pottery making. His life away from the Pueblo may explain the reason behind his designs being more contemporary than traditional. This particular seedpot is brown in color, with some areas being lighter in color due to the traditional firing process Forrest still uses. The entire piece was then polished with a beautiful, shiny, smooth polish. Forrest always does an excellent job on the polishing process. It is as smooth as glass and catches the light at every angle. The neck of the piece is not polished and lips out, which is an unusual and unique way to design the rim. The piece is covered with beautiful dancers that make their way around the piece. Three large mudhead dancers are the largest while t are three female dancers with tablitas on their head in the background. The dancers are all very detailed. This piece is a wonderful collection to any pottery collection. Although very contemporary in style, Forrest puts that contemporary spin on usually traditional symbols and designs, which read more
