Hello All,This auction has a low starting price and reasonable shipping. This auction is for one Sargent VBM No 3417 Transitional Plane. It is similar to the Stanley 27 1/2 Transitional Plane. It was purchased at a recent estate sale. T has been no effort by me to clean or restore the item. The plane has all the functional pieces in good working order. The wooden sole isstraight with no rot, checks or cracking. The sole is covered with minor abrasions and small nicks from normal use. The stamped mark on the wooden soleis cleanly defined and reads SARGENT V-B-M No3417. The overall length is 15 inches witha width of 2-7/8 inches. The iron measures at 2-3/16 inches wide. The metal parts appear to be original including the Lever Cap, Chipbreaker and Frog. The iron reads SARGENT V-B-M New Haven CT USA. The metal parts have lost a fair portionof their paint or japan color and t is minor pitting of the exposed metal. The iron andchipbreaker may have cleaned with steel wool or an abrasive pad by a prior owner. The tote and knob are in good condition with no cracks or large missing chunks. Theydo have wear in the form of small scratches or knicks. The plane could be put to use with a sharpened iron or put on a shelf. I have several other listed auctions for wood planes.
