Here is a Very 1928 Rare First Order Order Ornate Service Plate For The Paramount Hotel and one of 2 that I know of. The service plate measures and is in Very Good Condition showing moderate use and having been well taken care of. The hotel's crest is dead center and applied and joined with a very beautiful Scammell's border for The Paramount. The plate has no chips or cracks and the colors are bright & clear with decent gilt along the rim of which shows slight wear but mostly intact. The plate is of the very first order for the hotel 1928 and strangely, not much of the early pieces have surfaced for ''The Paramount'' it seems, so the service plate is a super find.The hotel's history & stories are absolutely historic and mesmerizing and I have included some information below. Truly a marvelous find here for the hotel service plate and china & silver collector of hotel memorabilia and New York historical items as well. Like I said, this is only the second plate I have ever seen, having been in a collection of service plates that I am now uncovering. A very rare seldom seen service plate. As stated, condition is Very Good with great detail. Below see some interesting history on the Hotel Paramount. A service plate that one rarely ever sees. The Hotel Paramount in New York City is a hotel located at 235 West 46th Street, to the west of Braodaway Designed by Tomas W. Lamb, construction was completed in 1928. In 1988, the hotel was closed for about 18-months for a remodeling project. In 1990, the hotel, under the ownership of Ian Schrager and redesigned by Philppe Starck, reopened as the Paramount Hotel The hotel did underg a seven-month long renovation in 1998 at a cost of $7 million or so, which included enhancements to lobby lighting Upon purchasing the hotel in 1986,Ian Schrager was able to more than double occupancy rates in about two years, to 82%. Schrager sold the hotel in 2004 for $126 million to a Sol Melia Hotels and Resorts / Hard Rock Cafe joint venture. Lots of musicians have been associated with the Paramount. The Paramount Hotel Grill, a restaurant within the hotel, hosted jazz performances from the 1930s onwards. At the height of their fame in 1931, the Memphis Stompers performed at the Paramount Hotel.Charlie Barnet led a band there from 1932 onwards. From 1938 to 1951, theatrical impressario and song writer Billy Rose operated "Billy Rose's Diamond Horseshoe" nightclub in the basement of the Paramount. The club was known for its vaudeville-styled reviews and chorus of showgirls, "Billy Rose's Long-stemmed beauties." The Diamond Horseshoe featured some of the top entertainers of the era, and was the inspiration for the 1945 musical film, Diamond Horseshoe starring Betty Grable.
