scarce 1864 Elmira NY Confederate Prison letter 44th VA Album Very scarce letter from the Elmira Prison Camp Dec 6, 1864. Sender was Richard Putney. This was likely the Richard Putney of the 44th Virginia Volunteer Infantry, as 158 men of the 44th were captured in May 1864 at Spotsylvania. Putney is writing to his cousin and notes that they should direct mail to Ward 3C. He notes how glad he was to get the last letter and that he has heard from Cousin James. He is hoping to receive some clothing from his relations soon and he is anxious to receive more letters. Letter has some tape repair on the folds, but otherwise nice condition. Condition is VG. Guaranteed genuine as described.
