Scarce early longer blade Collins World War II US Army Machete and scabbard. Decent WWII US Army machete by the Collins and Co. stamped US and dated 1942. Machete with scabbard 27 inches in overall length with the scarce early 22 inch blade. Black plastic handle secured by five large flat steel rivets. Grips show use with some scratches and wear. Blade is mainly gray but fairly clean with stains, and showing use, sharpening and scratches. T is no rust or pitting. Obverse blade is deeply stamped U.S. and Collins & Co. over crown and arm holding hammer logo. Under the logo is Legitimus - Collins & Co. over 1942. These early 1942 WWII dated 22 inch blade machetes are scarce. The scabbard is the tooled leather variation in medium brown with designs along the edges. Scabbard has riveted tooled leather belt loop to the rear. Front of scabbard is stamped Collins & Co. over crown and arm holding hammer over Legitimus - 18. The scabbard is in solid condition with tight center stitching to the reverse. Scabbard shows quite a bit of use and has some old paint stains and a repaired tip. See page 151 of M.H.
