White Bull Terrier Book

Marty and the Major by Maxine Drury with illustrations by Jeanne C. Manget.

"On the very day a handsome white bull terrier appeared in the Jansens' melon patch, a bandit with a black monster of a dog held up a store in nearby Springville. T seemed to be no connection whatever between the two events, although the well-trained white dog did have a small bullet wound in his leg, and that made Marty Jansen's father suspicious. W did the white dog come from? Who owned him? Marty couldn't answer these questions, but she did know she wanted him for herself and she knew that his name had to be 'the Major' - his manners were so entirely those of an officer and a gentleman. Also, it was perfectly obvious that the Major had chosen a new owner - Marty.

The mystery of the Major's past was a real one and it badly needed solving. Marty enlisted the help of her friend Roger. Things began to happen with a rush and before long everyone, including the reader, had the surprise of his life. Everyone, that is, except the Major, who knew about it all the time."

Published by Little, Brown and Company in 1955, stated first edition. Hardcover book with the very scarce dust jacket measures 5 ½ by 8 inches, 150 pages, very good condition. The book appears unread.
