Up for auction is a Scarce to Rare, Clinchfield Artware Pottery-Cash Family Pottery Of Erwin, Tennessee (1945 to 1988), Cat / Kitten Planter-Vase with a Blue Sponge Ware Pattern over White Glaze, along with Hand Painted Green Eyes and Brown Facial Features in Mint Condition and Manufactured Between 1945 and 1985. This has to be one of the most unusual and hard to find Cash Family vases t is. This wonderful blue sponge ware cat isn't even in Allison Burnette's Cash Family, Clinchfield Artware book, but it's clearly marked on the bottom "Clinchfield Artware, Hand Painted, Erwin, Tenn. I have only seen one other Cash Family cat vase and it had a tabby cat, orange brown color to it. Experience has also taught me not to be too suprised as to what I may find with the Clinchfield Artware or Cash Family mark on the bottom. This kitty has absolutely no chips or cracks of any kind and t is no glaze crazing or staining either. This cat stands about 4 1/2 inches tall and it's about 3 inches from its front paws to its tail. The depth is about 2 1/2 inches and the opening in its back is about 1 1/8 by 1 3/8 inches. You can see that this is not a very large cat, but it still weighs in at a whopping 3 1/2 ounces. The Clinchfield Artware Pottery was started by Ray and Pauline Cash and they made many of their own pottery molds and for the most part hand painted all of their wares. This cat had its blue color sponged on, but the little bit of hand painting for the eyes and the facial features is simply perfect. T were also many items made with the mark of the "Cash Family" on the bottom, but the wares came from the same pottery and either mark identifies the same source. On ocassion you will find an oddity like this cat vase and this leads me to believe that the Cash Family didn't miss the opportunity to acquire other wares from various sources from time to time. I can't say if this cat was from a mold they made or if it came from another source, but in the whole scheme of wares that the Cash family produced this cat is a hard one to come by. It is also a well known fact that many Blue Ridge China molds became theirs after Soyhern Potteries, Incorporated-Blue Ridge China closed their doors in 1957, so this proves that they looked for other sources to supply their needs beyond the molds they made for themselves. T is no mistaking the mark on the bottom of this cat is a genuine Clinchfield Artware-Cash Family mark and a scarce to rare Cash Family oddity like this one doesn't come along everyday. Don't miss your chance to acquire this awsome cat while you can. THANKS FOR LOOKING AND PLEASE BE SURE TO CHECK OUT MY OTHER LISTINGS!
