Scarce Out Of Print Leather Bound Folio Society Book. "Leaves Of Grass" By Walt Whitman Introduced by Andrew Motion Illustrated by Abigail Rorer Published in London by the Folio Society In 2009 Scarce First Edition. Out of print hardback in slip case, the book is quarter bound in green leather with gilt decorated buckram sides, the front cover is blocked with a design by Frances Button, the tit le is embossed in gilt on the spine and front cover, the top edge of the pages is gilt. The book is complete with the silk bookmark and the slipcase. The book measures 12" x 7½", it has 185 pages + xiii pages of prelims and is beautifully illustrated with 20 wood engravings and 9 tail pieces by Abigail Rorer. The slip case, binding and contents are as new, a stunning copy of a scarce finely bound Folio Society title. The binding is based on the original design of the 1855 edition and when this book was published by the Fo;io Society it was the only illustrated edition in print. In the words of former Poet Laureate Andrew Motion in the introduction to this volume, it is ‘quite simply one of the most remarkable first books of poems ever published’.
