A limited number of press kits were distributed to the philatelic press and local media when Pacific 97 opened at the Moscone Center in downtown San Francisco on 29 May 1997 for a 10-day run. The principal issue was the set of two, 12-stamp souvenir sheets celebrating the 150th anniversary of the nation's first postage stamps, the 1847 5¢ Franklin, Scott 1, and the 10¢ Washington, Scott 2. The stamps were re-engraved stamps as the 50¢ Washington, Scott 3139, issued 29 May, and the 60¢ Washington, Scott 3140, issued the following day. In a gimmick calculate to create scarcity--it didn't work--the odd-looking souvenir sheets were only available for sale nationwide until June 8. From left to right, images 1-3 show the press kit cover and two interior pages, followed by expensive 8-inch x 10-inch color transparencies for reproduction purposes (images 4-5), the ceremony programs with the first-day covers included in them (images 6-7), press releases (images 8-11), and a color circular showcasing all the Pacific 97 stamp and postal card issues (image 12). Unused examples of the souvenir sheets are not included.12-ounce shipping weight in rigid protective envelope..
