This is a nice example of a scarce miniature Medal of Merit for the Kingdom of Tonga . Tonga , or the Friendly islands , is the only Pacific archipelago never to have been colonized and the last island chain with a monarch. The medal was issued by King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV, GCMG, GCVO, and KBE (1918-2006) in the 1960s. The ribbon for the award is missing. His mother, Queen Salote Tupou III, ruled the islands during the reigns of King George V and King George VI. This will make a nice gift for your favorite veteran or current member of the military or civilian interested in Luxembourg . This is also an outstanding addition for the military history buff, those interested in orders, decorations and medals, uniforms and accruements, material related to the reconstruction of Europe after the Second World War, and collectors of militaria.
