Here is very scarce model of 1898 U.S. Officers Blouse or Coat for tropical use. This one has insignia for the 2nd Mississippi Volunteer Infantry (U.S.V.). As you can see it is in relic condition. It displays well and is stable but does have lots of wear and damage. Some of the hand embroidery is quite worn. Typical box pleat on back as typical of M1898 coats. Branch of service colored panels (cuffs, shoulder straps, and collar. Has Infantry "I" officer buttons typical of the Spanish American War. These were a carry over from the Civil War and are the type many officers favored on thier uniforms. Coat probably measures around a size 38 chest and this is provided for from display only. It probably could use some stablization however I have had for about 4 years and have not noticed any further deterioration. Even though I have other coats in far better condition, I liked the worn old campaigner looks of this one. Display with and old tattered officer belt and you have a cool display. Can be displayed on a dress form or framed up on the wall. Again the M1898 Officers Tropical coats come up very seldom as many were worn completely out or were burned.
