This original M1948 bayonet for the Portuguese FBP Carbine was probably made in Belgium for the Portuguese Army. It has the Belgian M1924 type grip with a short dougle edged dagger type blade. Overall condition of the bayonet is good. The finish of these bayonets is dark parkerizing covered by a very hard black paint (a method called STOVING by the British) which is the same finish used on Belgian rifles of the same period. These bayonets were not made in any large quantity and are seldom seen for sale on ebay. The 6 7/8 inch double edged blade is in very good condition with unsharpened edges. T are scratch marks and missing paint from use and insertion into the scabbard The wood grips held by two screwbolts are in good solid condition with only a few dents or gouges from use. The crossguard is missing some of the finish and has the serial number 3049 on the left side. The pommel is missing some of the finish and has some very slight patina rust and pitting near the wood grip.. The green plastic scabbard with canvas frog is in fair to good condition. It appears to be a European version of the U.S. M8 scabbard and was probalby made in Italy. The scabbard holds the bayonet firmly. Please see all the photos for condition and bid accordingly.
