"Schatz" in German means treasure and this is one treasure of a Cuckoo Clock! It is a large clock being 15 1/2 inches tall, 11 inches wide and 7 inches deep (measured with the decorative pieces in place). This clock has been rebuilt and keeps great time. It should give you years of service. If you are looking for an inexpensive but impressive 8-day cuckoo clock this clock may be the one for you. Great for gift giving or your own house, it has a hand carved and painted wooden cuckoo which is uncommon. The bellows tops on the cuckoo's whistles are trapezoidal in shape with is also unusual. Characteristic of Schatz 8-day clocks, t is a string pull on the side that you can tug and get the last hour to sound if you wish. The clocks mechanism has been taken out of the case and thoroughly cleaned, oiled and adjusted. The well-built clock movement runs for a little over a week with one winding. This clock mechanism is one of the most robust movements you will find in any cuckoo clock. No thin stamped gears in this clock! I've been running it for over a week now with no problems. The cuckoo and gong are pleasing to the ear and not too loud. T is a wire door latch to the side of the cuckoo's door so you can cut the sound off for quiet night time operation if you wish. This clock was made in Germany perhaps in the late 1960's but that is a pure guess on my part. If you are the lucky winner I will ship the clock with instructions. Thanks for looking! Repairs done to this clock: I have replaced the broken and missing hands and the bellows material for the cuckoo whistles was replaced. The woodwork is all original to the clock. The crown piece was broken into three pieces but has been repaired. (See the picture). You be the judge if this is not acceptable and would prevent you from bidding. I don't think the repairs are noticeable once on the wall, but, again, you be the judge. The weights are very heavy and original to the clock! You will need to firmly mount this clock on the wall. The clocks movement was taken out, cleaned and adjusted. The chains were cleaned and buffed. This is one honey of a clock for the asking price! More about my clocks:This is a repaired clock. In many cases, before I got a hold of it, it may have hit the floor, a part broke or it got dirty and stopped working. In all probability the clock went into a box and sat t for months or, most likely, years until somebody decided to get rid of it. As such it may have some nicks, scratches, fading, repaired breaks and distressed paint on plastic figures. I try to describe these imperfections and take pictures so you will know about them before you place a bid. Consider you are getting a clock that does everything a new one can for a fraction of the price. Once it is up on your wall, 6 feet from the floor, most of the imperfections are not going to be that noticeable anyway. If you want a pristine and perfect clock, please by a new one.Shipping: I will properly pack the clock before I send it on to you. I will also include a set up sheet describing how to mount the clock on the wall and the most common problems you might encounter when you start the clock up. Cuckoo Clocks, especially older ones, can be finicky straight out of the box. This is due to the fact that shipping cuckoos by UPS or USPS can cause problems. The old peddlers used to carry them on their backs packed straight up and down, but we can't expect that of modern carriers!
