Schimmell Bell & Hammer c1850 game pieces instructions Schimmell, Or the Bell and Hammer issued c. 1850 Charming mid 19th century children's game in its original wooden box. Includes printed folded instruction sheet, four wood-cut illustrated cards with hand color, hundreds of small circular cardboard coin pieces, a wooden tube and a small wooden mallet. Wooden box with charming color lithographed cover depicting a horse, bell, and hammer, with title of game across top and bottom. Top wooden cover slides out of box grooves revealing contents. In good+, mostly clean condition. Cover somewhat scuffed and worn, light wear to box case, placards lightly soiled and bent, game pieces, hammer & wooden tube all displaying some light general wear. Missing the "white horse" card, and the numbered ivory cubes. Still otherwise remaining clean, tight, sound and well-preserved overall. This game is described in Uncle John's Boys' Book of Games , published in 1854 in New York by Leavitt & Allen. A truly charming little item.
