SCHRANK.Probably Swiss or German, though possibly Midwestern, 19th century, pine. Worn old green and blue paint. Pinned construction, scrolled apron, raised panel doors with pintel hinges (removable), and original lock with escutcheon and key. Four dovetailed drawers and molded cornice. Wear and edge damage with some insect holes. 71 1/2"h. 51 1/2"w. 15 1/2"d.This wardrobe is of a type made in Germany and Switzerland in the 18th and early 19th century as well as by the German and Swiss immigrants in Ohio and Indiana in the middle of the 19th century. It is the same basic form as the Sonnenberg, Ohio, schrank sold at Garth's, May 2008, lot 113, with the addition of the drawers to the left of the drawer. The large, Victorian, stamped brass escutcheon is the same type found on nearly all Sonnenberg schrunken.
