For auction is an old, 1920s SCHUCO COMPACT MONKEY, similiar to the one which appeared on the Antiques Roadshow, valued at $600.00. Details: The one at the Antique Roadshow was in excellent condition. This one has a few troubles. The fuzz is in bad shape. The stomach opens to reveal a compact. While the mirror remains in the left cavity, whatever was in the right cavity is gone, leaving only the metal base. On the bottom of one foot, the head of the attaching nail is visible. The head can go up and down and can turn to either side. To open the compact area, raise the head about 1/4" so the collar can swing open. After the compact is closed, slide the head down to lock the compact. The arms and legs are movable vertically. With carefull positioning of the legs, the Monkey can be made to stand up, difficult but possible. See last photo of the free standing Monkey. Sitting is no problem. Overall height is about 3 1/2". While the condition is not good, still this is a SCHUCO MONKEY COMPACT, made in Germany, and worthy to be added to your collection if you do not have one.
