SCHUTZTRUPPE OFFICER'S HAT FOR GERMAN SOUTH-WEST AFRICA V E R Y R A R E I T E M! Offered for auction is a unique and desirable item of Colonial German headgear from the time of the First World War. This VERY SAME hat appears in Imperial German Field Uniforms and Equipment 1907-1918, Volume 3 by Johan Somers. The hat is in good condition, with signs of field use -- sweat stains, dirt, fading, one or two moth bites, but these are inconsequential as overall this is a magnificent piece for any German WWI collection. The cornflower blue trim and hat band identify this as belonging to the protectorate forces assigned to German SouthWest Africa; other imperial forces had different colored piping. That it is an officer's hat is indicated by the hat band -- other ranks had a plain strip of woolen cloth in the appropriate color -- and the style of kokarde. T are no ventilation holes, so this is the real thing, and not a later recreation for a veteran's group. I hate to part with this item, but times dictate otherwise. My loss is your gain, but I have placed a reserve to protect my investment. Pictures speak for themselves. A rare item and a jewel for any collector of Imperial German headgear.
