You are bidding on a page of autographs of some of the great science-fiction authors from the classic period of science-fiction. It was collected by myself at a science fiction authors convention in New York in the mid 1950s. The autographs, from top to bottom, are: Isaac Asimov (1920 Â- 1992) Â- one of the greatest and best known science fiction authors of all times. Willy Ley (1906 Â- 1969) - a German-American science writer and space advocate who helped popularize rocketry and spaceflight in Germany and the United States. The Ley crater on the far side of the moon has been named in his honor. Theodore Sturgeon (1918 Â- 1985) - At the height of his popularity in the 1950s he was the most anthologized author alive. He wrote short stories, primarily for genre magazines such as Astounding and Unknown, but also for general-interest publications such as Argosy Magazine. Sturgeon wrote the screenplays for the Star Trek episodes Â"Shore LeaveÂ" and Â"Amok Time.Â" L. Sprague deCamp (1907 Â- 2000) - was an American science fiction and fantasy author. In a writing career spanning fifty years he wrote over one hundred books, including both novels and notable works of nonfiction, such as biographies of other important fantasy authors. T. E. Dikty (1920 Â- 1991) - was one of the earliest science fiction anthologists. He started the first "Best of the Year" anthologies, called The Best Science Fiction, which ran from 1949 to 1957. P. Schuyler Miller (1912 Â- 1974) - Miller wrote pulp science fiction beginning in the 1930s, and is considered one of the more popular authors of the period. His work appeared in such magazines as Amazing Stories, Astounding, Comet, The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, Marvel Tales, Science Fiction Digest, Super Science Stories, Unknown, Weird Tales, and Wonder Stories, among others. Nelson Bond (1908 Â- 2006) - Bond wrote science fiction and fantasy, as well as sports and crime fiction. His published fiction is mainly short stories, most of which appeared in pulp magazines in the 1930s and 1940s. He is particularly noted for his "Lancelot Biggs" series of stories, and for his "Meg the Priestess" tales, which introduced one of the first powerful female characters in science fiction. Hal Clement (Harry C. Stubbs) (1922 Â- 2003) - better known by the pen name Hal Clement, was an American science fiction writer and a leader of the hard science fiction genre subgenre John W. Campbell Jr. (1910 Â- 1971) - the editor of Astounding Science Fiction, a post that he held from late 1937 until his death. Isaac Asimov called Campbell "the most powerful force in science fiction ever.Â" Arthur C. Clarke (1917 - ) - is a British science fiction author, inventor, and futurist, most famous for his novel 2001: A Space Odyssey, and for collaborating with director Stanley Kubrick on the film of the same name.
