This spectacular dirk measures 18 1/2 inches overall in its leather scabbard. All of the handles are carved of Bogwood and studded with nail heads. The pommel of the dirk is carved with one large leaf to the back with smaller leaves radiating around to the front. The central section has a carved basket weave design that transitions into another organic form in the lower section of the handle. T are no chips or cracks in the handle. The handles of the two smaller pieces are carved with the same leaf and basket weave pattern. In the lower section are carved four celtic type knots that oppose eachother. These handles are also in fine condition. These pieces are attached to the scabbard with chains attached by spring clips. Both the knife and fork blades appear in a fine condition. The large blade of the dirk has a blood groove on both sides and measures 11 1/2 inches in length. The butt of the blade is also serrated, if you will. T is a light bit of rust midway down the blade on one side, and another minor area at the tip on the reverse side as well as at the top. The blade is stamped with two numbers....8 and 1. The number 1 seems to have a mark above it, possibly a shield or hallmark but is unledgeable. The scabbard has four silver plated mounts, each with a motto The topmost piece shows two opposing dragons amidst a celtic knot design with a crown. The second section shows the dragons and knots again with a boars head and the motto 'Ne Obliviscaris' (do not forget). The next mount down shows a cat and reads 'Sans Peur' , which translates as Fearless. The mount at the bottom shows the two opposing dragons (dolphins?) heads and further knot work. The Dirk blade has an amber colored stone, backed with foil. It is in perfect condition without any sign of chips or cracks. The knife and fork handles are also mounted with two similarly colored stones, also without fault. The scabbard itself is made of wood and wrapped with leather. The leather shows no rips or tears. On the back of the scabbard is a mount used to secure the dirk, by a leather strap to the belt. This dirk will be very well packed and shipped Fedex Ground insured to the lucky bidder.
