Scottish signed Victorian oil on canvas (24ins x 36ins) of Narcissus gazing at his reflection by the river. An unusual composition for a tradiitional Scottish landscape artist. The painting is in need of some restoration as shown. The artist is Thomson Kirkwood who exhibited 5 paintings at the Royal Scottish Academy and 20 at the Glasgow Institute with some intervals in between. He is recorded as painting between 1861-1889 and this painting dated 1896 shows the artist at the peak of his career. An example of his work is held at the Hunterian Art Gallery, Glasgow.
