Nautical Folk Art: A Scrimshawed WhaleÃ,Â's Tooth of Whaling Ship Florida & Capt. Thomas W.Williams - Scrimshawed to commemorate the trip of the whaling ship Florida, that embarked from New Bedford, Massachusetts in 1858, this old, late 19th century, 6Ã,Â" long tooth has a picture of the ship Florida on one side and a portrait of Capt. Thomas W. Williams on the other. A unique feature of this voyage was that the captainÃ,Â's wife, Eliza Griswald Williams, was a passenger who kept a diary of the voyage. A son was born onboard the ship and about 100 years later, his son published his grandmotherÃ,Â's diary as part of the book Ã,Â"One Whaling FamilyÃ,Â". Scrimshaw of the old whaleÃ,Â's tooth may have been done in conjunction with publication of the book. A copy of this book, published in 1964, is included in this purchase.WINTER SALE: PRICE REDUCED FROM $1200.
