You are bidding on a container from Seabury & Johnson for Plain Absorbent Gauze. The information of the lid indicates Patented Seabury's Air-Tight Aseptic container, Seabury & Johnson, New York, USA, Packed in Folds, Patent Dec. 4, 1888, with the company logo design. The writing is raised and the top is worn. One side indicates: Seabury's Standard Gauzes are of uniform strength folded and packed in air-tight aseptic containers. The percentage of the antiseptic in our medicated gauzes is based on the weight of the finished product. Seabury & Johnson 59-61 Maiden Lane. New York. Second side information: Plain absorbent gauze 5 Yards. Prepared at the Seabury Pharmacal Laboratories, New York, USA Branches: London Hamburg. The other two sides have the company logo on them. The box is very decorative with black and red words and green and yellow backgrounds. The container is empty. From research I have done R.W. Johnson left Seabury and Johnson in 1885 and founded Johnson & Johnson with his brother. George Seabury and his brother Robert kept the company name unchanged. After George's death in 1909, Robert carried on and the company thrived for another decade at lease, being a major supplier for the American military of first aid packets during World War I.
