Blue amber is considered by some to be the most rare colored amber that occurs naturally. Up for bidding on is a semi-polished piece weighing 11.3 grams and having the dimensions of 1.5" long by 1.5" high with a width of 0.25". This piece is from rough originating in the Dominican Republic. Blue amber is also found naturally in the Chiapas state of Mexico. This piece could be used as a specimen or for jewelry. Several smaller pieces could cut for multiple use. Please note that blue amber is not blue due to light shining through it, but due to light shining on it. The photographs of this piece were taken in natural sunlight. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is responsible for the blue color that, aside from the unnatural sources of a UV lamp or black light, is most intense in natural sunlight. This is due to the amber's natural fluorescent chemical properties. Thank you for your consideration. This amber does not contain any insects and will ship worldwide at a cost of $4.00 U.S.
