SEMI ROUND BACK MANDOLIN “PORTUGUESE STYLE” Would suit the mandolin beginner DESCRIPTION Beginners mandolin with an arched “semi round back” or what is generally referred to as “Portuguese Style”. Overall condition is excellent although the neck has a slight bow and the bridge needs lowered. INSTRUMENT DETAIL Front/Top: The top is solid spruce in excellent condition with no cracks or splits; in fact I can hardly see a scratch. The oval sound hole is surrounded by a black scratch plate with an inlaid flower patter. Bridge: The bridge is in good condition but it is not the original and it needs a new bridge to make the action lower. Back: The back and sides are also in very good condition. The back is made of spruce with 7 individual arched ribs alternating between dark and light stain and there are no cracks or separations to the back or sides. Fretboard: The neck is not completely straight. The fretboard is of rosewood with 18 frets (includes zero) in good playable condition. There are mother of pearl position inlay markers at the 5 th 7 th and 12 th frets. Head/Machine heads: The head is in good condition. Machine heads and tuning pegs appear original and all in full working order. Strings: All present. Action: Action is high, needs a lower bridge.
