Serial no. 2681, hand-engraved, .44-40 caliber, 26-inch octagonal barrel with 2/3 magazine. Top of breech with marking of maker, King`s improvement patents, and New Haven CT. address. Silver blade front sight mounted on blued steel base dovetailed at muzzle. The top of sight base stamped referencing Freund`s Patent on one side of blade and `Mar. 10th/1875` on other. Ladder style rear sight engraved on steel base: `Freund/Pat./1880.` Graduated for 200 and 500 yards with hand-engraved markings. The sliding sighting bar hand-engraved: `More Light.` Left side of upper tang of frame stamped: 2681. Left side of lower tang stamped: 268. Richly and profusely scroll and border engraved on the frame, mortise cover (with raised and checkered thumb print motif), lifter and fore-end cap. Shotgun style steel buttplate with light scroll engraving on heel, and checkered surface on butt. American style engraving with punched dot backgrounding. Low relief motifs include barking pointer sporting dog on left side of frame, with deer hunting scene on left sideplate. To rear of left sideplate, a circular panel with doe motif. Right sideplate relief engraved with elk within panel with cow motif. To rear, circular panel with two wild turkeys in relief. Among other frame motifs a squirrel within small oval. Several frame screws deluxe engraved and plated in gold. Some of these screws on sides of frame gold-plated and filed flat to blend in with each side of frame. Buttplate screws also engraved and gold-plated. At forward section of frame, relief WES intertwined monogram, with relief chiseled commemorative date: `JAN. 1st 1875.` Gold-plated frame, mortise cover, cartridge lifter, fore-end cap and shotgun style buttplate. Set trigger. Bottom of frame stamped in tiny marking with engraver`s signature: J. ULRICH. Case-hardened hammer and cocking lever. Blued barrel and magazine tube. Oil-finished checkered select walnut stocks, with thick butt. 250000 - 350000
