Serial no. 28694, .45-90 caliber, 26-inch round barrel with maker and address marking, and .45-90 caliber at breech. Platinum band inlays, one at muzzle and one at breech. German silver blade front sight inset on blued steel base dovetailed at muzzle. Open sporting rear sight of buckhorn style with grooved sides. Fine English style scroll and border engraving on muzzle and breech of barrel, frame, fore-end cap, hammer, bolt, lever and buttplate. Greyhound pursuing rabbit on right side of frame, hunter shooting elk in circular motif on left side of frame. Signature stamp of `J. Ulrich` on bottom of frame forward of trigger. Bright blue finish, with case-hardened hammer and lever. Varnished and checkered pistolgrip select walnut stocks, Style H, with ebony inlay on pistolgrip. Brassbound and leather covered oak sporting case contour-lined in burgundy felt and with gold-embossed inscription in lid: `Exposition Universelle/1889/Grand Prix.` Removable accessory tray of oak, compartmented for cartridges and accessories, including segmented cleaning rod, cleaning brush tip and 10 cartridges. Circular brass plaque on case lid inscribed: `Carlos Dose/Armstrong.` Several shipping labels on top and bottom of case, as well as various letters in ink. These labels are indicative of the well-traveled nature of this rifle, which may have done further promotions on behalf of Winchester, to other trade events, to dealers and distributors, as an important sample of Winchester`s then most-modern lever action rifle. 60000 - 80000
